Arsenal are close to agreeing on a deal to sign Freiburg and Turkey defender Caglar Soyuncu in a deal set to be worth in the region of £35m.
German media outlet Bild is reporting that talks between Caglar Soyuncu and the Gunners have already taken place with an agreement of £35m in place and ready to be signed. Arsenal will press ahead with the move even though they still have not appointed a new manager.
Soyuncu who is 21-years-old is a full Turkish international with nine caps to his name so far. He signed for Freiburg back in 2016 from Turkish side Altinnordu.
A number of Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the Turkish international defender but it seems he is now destined to join up with the Gunners.
Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat who held a similar position with Borussia Dortmund for a number of years knows the German League very well and he is also a big fan of Soyuncu.
With Wenger leaving, this summer will see major changes at Arsenal, not only in the backroom but to the playing squad also. It now looks as though Arsenal will be appointing the inexperienced Mikel Arteta who is expected to leave his assistant manager role at Manchester City.
Rather than appoint a new manager, the Arsenal board have settled on a younger manager with potential. Most Arsenal fans may not be pleased with this appointment as they would have expected a bigger name with more experience.
Whoever comes in as manager, along with any new signings will have to play a season without Champions League football once again. The next few years looks to be a rebuilding process for the Gunners with the aim of breaking back into the top four.
