Europa League finalists Atletico Madrid are planning to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as they search for a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
Reports from French media outlet Le10Sport is reporting that the Atletico board see Cavani as the ideal replacement for French striker Antoine Griezmann who is expected to leave for Barcelona this summer.
The 31-year-old Uruguayan international has also had a falling out with Neymar this season over who takes responsibilities for free-kicks and penalties. The PSG board sided with Neymar which has angered Cavani to start looking at a move away from the club.
Despite his troubles at PSG, Cavani was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year after scoring 35 goals this season. He was instrumental in the Parisians title win this year.
However, at the age of 31 many clubs may want to look elsewhere as Cavani will most likely have only a maximum of two-seasons left in him at the top level.
PSG will most likely want a fee in the region of £40m plus for the Uruguay striker if he was to move on from the club. That fee may not be an issue for Diego Simeone’s side who will be flush with cash from the sale of Griezmann to Barcelona this summer.
Cavani joined up with PSG in the summer of 2013 for a club record €64m from Serie A side Napoli. Since his arrival in Paris, he has made a total of 165 appearances, scoring 116 goals for the club.
He will be hoping to make a big impact during this summers World Cup in Russia for Uruguay where he will play up-front with Barcelona striker Luis Suarez. This summer will most likely be his last World Cup finals.
