Barcelona are close to completing a deal to sign Ajax and Holland youngster Frenkie De Jong with the clubs representatives set to meet next week to finalise the move.
De Jong, who is only 21-years-old could be set to move to the Nou Camp in a deal rumoured to be in the region of €35m.
Spanish media outlet AS.com claim representatives from Barcelona are set to meet with De Jong’s team and Ajax to finalise a deal to make the Dutch Under-21 international their first signing of the summer transfer window.
The Catalan giants were expected to make a bid for De Jong next summer. However, with growing interest from teams in the Premier League, Barcelona have decided to act fast and tie down the central midfielder to a long-term deal.
Dutch giants Ajax snapped up De Jong from the Willem II academy in 2015 with the player going on to establish himself in the first team.
So far he has made a total of 71 appearances for Ajax, scoring 9 goals in the process.
He has yet to make his full debut for the Dutch national team, but he has represented his country from Under-15 level all the way up to Under-21.
Many feel it is only a matter of time before the young midfielder makes his full debut for the national team.
With a good range of passing and dribbling ability, De Jong is the perfect mould of player that would slot perfectly into the Barcelona central midfield. Many pundits in Holland believe he will go onto be one of the best central midfielders in world football. A move to Barcelona will raise his profile on the international stage.
The player will follow in the footsteps of former Dutch players who made the move from Ajax to Barcelona, with the likes of Johann Cruyff, Patrick Kluivert, Michael Reizger, Winston Bogarde and the De Boer twins all making the move to Barca in the past.
