Barcelona are targeting a move for Tottenham and Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen as an alternative to main target Philippe Coutinho.
According Spanish publication Don Balon, Barcelona have made Christian Eriksen their number one target despite being heavily linked with Coutinho since last summer.
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho has always been the number one target for the Catalan giants, but Liverpool’s unwillingness to do a deal with Barcelona has prompted the clubs directors to look at alternatives.
They have now turned their attentions to Eriksen, who this season has impressed domestically in the Premier League and put in some good performances in the Champions League, notably against arch rivals Real Madrid.
Eriksen has also impressed for Denmark in the European Qualifying for the World Cup. He single handed took apart Ireland in the second leg of their qualifier in Dublin by scoring a hat-trick earlier this month.
Barcelona have surely noticed his performances and have now made him their Number one target in the January transfer window.
Only recently Philippe Coutinho mentioned he is happy with life at Liverpool, indicating his hopes of moving to the Camp Nou are over.
The 25-year-old joined Tottenham from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2013 for £11m. He has since established himself as one of the finest attacking midfielders in the Premier League.
He has made a total of 147 appearances scoring 34 goals in the process since joining Spurs.
Barcelona may find themselves in the same situation as they did with Liverpool, with any bid likely to be rejected by the North London club.
Mauricio Pochattino sees the Dane as his midfield general and only a bid over £150m could persuade Tottenham to sell the player.
