Bayern Munich are ready to offer veteran wingers Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery new contracts which will allow both player to stay on with the German champions and league leaders beyond this season.
Both wingers, who’s contracts expire with Bayern Munich this summer are expected to be offered new deals to keep them at the club longer, even though both players are now in the latter stages of their careers.
Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told reports that the Bavarian club have made preparations to offer fresh contract terms to both players. He told reporters: “We have spoken with both players and agreed to hold contract talks in April and then we’ll see what happens.
Both players where in great form this weekend when Bayern Munich trashed Bundesliga rivals HSV Hamburg 6-0. Ribery scored two goals in the game with Robben scoring one.
Even though both players are now in the mid-30’s, they show now sign of slowing up and are now expected to play a major part in the Bayern first-team squad over the coming years.
“It’s true, Frank has played superbly this Saturday, Arjen too.” Both scored great goals, Rummenigge told reports.
“In April we’ll talk. This has been agreed with the players and both of them accepted that. It was very unproblematic for them.
“We have the task to put together the squad for next season and we will do that to our best knowledge and ability. That wasn’t a problem for either to of the two.
“It is known that generally, speaking for both of them, they would like to remain at Bayern Munich and, if they’re playing like they did on Saturday, we’ll get together and talk about it.”
Both players have now retired from international football which will help them concentrate on their club careers. It now seems the former French and Dutch international wingers will end up finishing their careers at the top with Bayern.
