Saul Niguez only signed an extension to his Atletico contract this summer, which included a £134m release clause

According to Spanish media outlet Don Balon, the Premier League Champions want to sign the midfielder to bolster their midfield options in the January transfer window.

It is understood that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is a big admirer of the Spain international, and he wants to add the attacking midfielder to the squad in the next transfer window.

Niguez, who only signed an extension to his Atletico contract back in the summer, has a £134m release clause inserted into this new deal.  This would make it difficult for the Londoners to prise him away, unless they stump up double the £71m which they plan to offer.

Atletico head coach Diego Simeone is also unlikely to sanction any move for the Spain international away from Madrid.  The Argentine see’s Saul as his main man in midfield for years to come. and would like to build a team around him.

At the age of 22, the midfielder has his best years ahead of him domestically and on the international scene.

It is also reported that fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United are in the hunt for Sual Niguez signature.  The Manchester club are prepared to offer Spanish midfielders Juan Mata and Andre Herrera plus cash for the midfielder.

Niguez, who is a product of the Real Madrid youth system, joined rivals Atletico in 2008.  He has since gone on to make 98 appearances for the club, scoring a total of 13 goals.

He has also represented Spain at all youth levels from the U16’s – U21’s, and he is now a regular established midfielder in the full Spain international team.
