Borussia Dortmund are targetting a summer move for Nice and Italy striker Mario Balotelli as the Bundesliga side prepare to make his current Nice coach Lucian Favre their next Head Coach.
Italian broadcaster Mediaset Premium is reporting that the Bundesliga side are looking to bring Mario Balotelli over to Germany next season as long as they can secure the services of his current manager Lucian Favre.
Favre is a big fan of Balotelli who he has rejuvenated since he moved to Nice back in 2016. Since his arrival in Ligue 1, Super Mario as he is known has scored 33 goals in 50 appearances for the club to date.
In his first season with Nice, the troubled striker scored 15 goals, rediscovering some of the form which made him such a household name. This season has seen him better that tally by hitting 18 goals.
However, Dortmund may have competition for the striker who could make a return to Italy with highflying Napoli next term. The Naples side has expressed an interest in the striker and will most likely make a bid for him this summer.
The player who will be a free agent this summer may have more than two suitors with other clubs from Italy also expected to enter negotiations for the eccentric striker.
Many pundits expected the 27-year-old striker to be called back up to the Italian national side after their failure to qualify for this summers World Cup in Russia. However, caretaker manager Luigi Di Biagio has looked past him during the last two friendlies. With his former manager Roberto Mancini expected to take charge of The Azzurri again, Balotelli is expected to earn a call-up to the national side once the new season starts.
