Juventus claimed their fourth straight and 13th Coppa Italia crown last night by trashing rivals AC Milan 4-0 in Rome.
The clubs fourth consecutive Coppa Italia win could also be their fourth consecutive double when The Old Lady secures the Scudetto title this weekend. They currently sit six points ahead of Napoli with two games to play and a superior goal difference.
The game in Rome was also a chance for Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso to win his first bit of silverware since taking charge of The Rossoneri back in November. However, after a second-half collapse, it seems the former midfield general will have to wait another season.
The game started off cagey in typical Italian fashion with both teams not giving away much in defence. It ended even at half-time with Juventus having much of the possession and chances in a boring first-half.
The game came into life in the second-half after Morrocan defender Medhi Benatia put the holders ahead in the 55th minute from a Miralem Pjanic inswinging corner.
Five minutes later Brazilian winger Douglas Costa made it 2-0 with a left-footed drive from outside the box to beat Milan keeper Donnarumma at the near-post. The younger keeper made a mistake by palming the ball into his own net when he could have caught the ball.
Juve the made it 3-0 on the night when Donnarumma made yet another costly mistake by palming Mario Mandzukic’s header straight into the path of Medhi Benatia who tapped in to get his second of the night. Milan’s young keeper was having a final to forget.
The Rossoneri’s night got even worse when Milan striker Nikola Kalinic headed into his own net after another left-footed inswinging corner by Miralem Pjanic.
It now means Juventus will prepare to lift the Scudetto in a few days completing another double-winning season and their dominance of the Italian top flight continues.
