Champions League finalists Liverpool have offered Real Madrid a massive €180m for midfielder Marco Asensio as they look to move on from the Nabil Fekir transfer saga.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have firmly set their sights on Asensio after pulling out of a bid to sign Fekir, whos’s medical showed problems with his knee.
The publication claims Liverpool have offered a massive €180m for the 22-year-old Spanish international which will smash the British transfer record which is currently held by Paul Pogba when he signed for Manchester United in a €100m deal two-years ago.
However, Asensio who signed a long-term deal at Real only last season has a massive €700m release clause inserted into the deal. Reports claim the offer has not been rejected nor accepted, with the Real board seriously considering the offer.
The Spain international was a bit part player last season for Los Blancos starting most of his games from the bench. However, with Zidane now leaving Real and Lopetegui in charge, many believe he will be given more chances to start next season.
Lopetegui rates the player very highly and even picked him in Spains 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia.
Liverpool have already secured the signings of Fabinho and Naby Keita this summer. If they manage to add Asensio to their ranks then they will add some serious firepower to an already potent attack that includes Mane, Firminio and Salah.
Jurgen Klopp armed with a huge transfer war chest this summer is hoping to build a squad capable of challenging Manchester City in the Premier League and make another assault on trying to win the Champions League.
With money in the bank from the €160m sale of Philippe Coutinho and €90-100m earned from last seasons run to the Champions League Final, Red’s fans are in for an interesting summer transfer window.
