Premier League giants Liverpool are targeting a shock move for Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama during this summers transfer window.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a move Victor Wanyama as a possible replacement for Emre Can should the German international midfielder leave Liverpool for Juventus as expected this summer.
Wanyama, is rated as one of the best central defensive midfielders in the Premier League after spending 5-years in the Premier League, three-years at Southampton and another two-years with Spurs.
His work rate and defensive play in the middle of the park will surely suite Jurgen Klopp’s pressing style of play. The Reds have been crying out for a defensive midfielder since Javier Mascherano left for Barcelona back in 2010.
Liverpool’s achilles heel in recent seasons has been their defence. It now seems Jurgen Klopp sees the holding midfield position along with a new goalkeeper as the main priority for the Reds.
If the Anfield side where to sure up the back line and keep more clean sheets, many pundits believe Liverpool will be up there competing on the same level as Manchester City.
Wanyama, a Kenyan international suffered a knee injury in the early part of the season. Since his return from injury he has mainly been used as a sub and only started for the club during two FA Cup ties. A chance to become a central part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield and play along side fellow African midfielder Naby Keita could appeal to him.
With Liverpool and Spurs now both fighting for Champions League positions at the top of the Premier League, it is unlikely that the Tottenham board will sell to a rival team unless a monster bid is submitted.
