Manchester City are looking to make a bid for Napoli and Algeria left-back Faouzi Ghoulam in the January transfer window, after impressing against them in the midweek Champions League fixture.
As we reported a few weeks ago, Ghoulam is also a target for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, but Man City with deep pockets and money to burn can easily outbid their Premier League rivals by offering a larger transfer fee and higher wages.
The Algerian international has yet to sign a contract extension with Napoli, which will mean he will be out of contract at the end of the season or leave for a cut-price deal next summer.
City manager, Pep Guardiola was very impressed with the performance of the attacking left-back in midweek, he has now decided to make a move for the player in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old, has been regarded as one of the best full-backs in Serie A, and he has played a key part in Napoli’s 100% start to the season by providing three assists and two goals so far this season.
Man City’s need for a left-back is urgent after the long-term knee injury of Benjamin Mendy, who will be out of action until April. Fabian Delph has been filling in at left-back since Mendy was injured, but Guardiola is looking for a specialised left-back on a long term basis for the position vacated by the injured Frenchman.
City are expected to make a bid in the winter transfer window, but Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is still hopeful the player will put pen to paper on a new deal which would keep him at the club longer, or command a higher transfer fee if any club did want to sign him up.
