Premier League leaders Manchester City are eyeing up a move for Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio after missing out on Alexis Sanchez who is about to join rivals Manchester United.
Asensio, who made a blistering start to the season, has been left on the bench for most of the season even though Real have struggled for form. The player has been left unhappy with manager Zinedine Zidane for overlooking him and is now looking for a way out of the club.
Spanish publication Don Balon are reporting that Premier League leaders Man City are looking to make a €100m swoop for the Spain international after missing out on primary target Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez, who is expected to join Manchester rivals United, was Pepe Guardiola’s first choice option after almost signing the player for £60m last summer. However, City have refused to meet Arsenals valuation of a player who only has 6 months left on this contract.
Asensio, is seen as better value for money due to his age and potential. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has already won 8 international caps for Spain and is expected to make the final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
United, have also been heavily linked with the Spain international, only last month it was reported that Asensio has been made an offer to move to Old Trafford, which himself and his agent are seriously considering.
City, will be looking to get one over their rivals after loosing out to United in the chase for Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez, was at Old Trafford last night completing his medical and he is now expected to be unveiled as a Red Devil within the next 24 hours.
