Manchester United are close to agreeing a pre-contract deal for Arsenal and Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil in January, allowing the player to join Old Trafford on a free transfer next season.
According to reports from Spanish publication El Confidencial, the Arsenal star is close to a pre-contract agreement with Premier League rivals Man Utd.
Ozil joined Arsenal in 2013 from Real Madrid for €50m, where he played under current United boss Jose Mourinho.
The German international midfielders contract expires in less than one year at Arsenal, and there has been no signs of him agreeing to put pen to paper to keep him at the Emirates beyond next summer.
There are a number of other clubs such as Inter Milan and Fenerbahce who are keen to sign Ozil either on a free transfer next summer or for a cut-price deal in January.
However it is understood that the German would like to stay in the Premier League and link up again with his former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
El Confidencial are reporting that the former Werder Bremen prodigy is getting closer to agreeing a move to Old Trafford which will be a massive blow to Arsenal fans.
Not only are Arsenal facing the prospect of losing Ozil next summer on free, star striker Alexis Sanchez is also out of contract in the summer and he is expected to join another Premier League rival Manchester City.
Arsenal who had a slow start to the season, losing two games in a row, have now picked up form by winning their last three Premier League games in a row. This has coincided with Mesut Ozil being out of the team injured, with some fans now questioning whether they need him in the side at all.
