Champions League winners Real Madrid have chosen club legend Raul to take over as the new first-team head coach after dropping their interest in Tottenham manager Mauricio Pocchetino.
Madrid based media outlet AS is claiming Real Madrid have been unsuccessful in their attempts to land Spurs manager Mauricio Pocchetino so have instead turned to club legend Raul who has just earned his UEFA A and B licenses.
The appoint will echo similarities when Zinedine Zidane made the step up to become the head coach back in 2016. Now 40-years-old, Raul has been studying and learning to become a coach and could be handed the biggest job in world football as his first assignment.
After the appointment of Zidane in 2016 Florentina Perez is not scared to follow the same steps again after the Frenchman became one of the most successful club coaches in the history of football, if not the best coach Real Madrid have ever had on the sidelines.
The Real Madrid president will be hoping for similar results as he is now ready to appoint probably the most successful and famous Spanish player in the clubs history.
With one of the best squads in world football at his disposal and his high standing at the club, Raul will certainly be welcomed by the players with open arms. Having a club legend on the par with Zidane in the dressing room would be a major boost for the Los Blancos players.
Such an appointment will also go down well with the fans who adore Raul and have given him god-like status since his retirement. Many may see this as a risk but after the success of Zinedine Zidane, many will feel it is the correct path to choose.
